Owen "Whistle" Chikonyora

Let me take this moment to introduce myself.  My name is Owen Chikonyora better known by my stage name Whistle.  I am a Christian rapper.  I was Born and raised in the high density suburb of Glen View, Harare, Zimbabwe, Africa. Some would ask, how did Owen become a Christian rapper?  Well, here is your answer, I discovered my love for poetry at a tender age, and I felt like this was it for me.  As the years went by this skill of delivering great poetry developed into rap music, most of which was social commentary and a reflection of my personal life experiences. At times it takes a tragedy to transform a man’s heart and mind to search for the true jewel in life, which is God.  I went through such an experience and surely my life changed course.  I started to search for a higher purpose in life which I honestly found in the lord Jesus Christ, the son of the Living God, the hope of all salvation, the one who saves all and saved my life. 

My musical debut was in August 2013 starting with the release of a track “This Life” which is a reflection of the struggles that young people in Zimbabwe are facing to make successful lives. This was in January 2014 followed by another single “The Letter” both which have been widely played on radio and received good reviews.  The process of doing these tracks was really amazing, well that’s something we will talk about some other time.

 

My salvation transformed the message I sent out through my rap.  This got me to a point where I began to record professionally with Huniland Ent, a local studio in the neighbourhood. I have done an 8 track mix-tape called The New Beginning which I released on 11 April of 2014. In 2016 l later released my album called  Carry Your Cross which solidified my position in CHH as an artist, leading to air play on international channel One Gospel where my music is regularly played since 2015 when they first aired "This Life." In December 2017, I released my lead single called "Where Would I Be?" which is announcing the release of my new album currently work in progress.
